...and we are merely slaves. The inspiration for this piece came from the rainy season, when I found myself pondering Steampunk umbrellas and whether they should be forged from wrought iron. That reminded me of bird cages and I set to work modeling one. Since I was listening to Marillion at the time, the magpie showed up ontop the cage but this is nothing unusual
Since I wanted to go with a Victorian feel, my instinct was have a distressed tintype background that would fade into a sepiatone. Fortunately the piece went in a more painterly direction and her waistcoat bled into the underpainting. I've been having a lot of fun with lost and found edges lately
