Babylon, by Candlelight

When it comes to artwork, lighting is really my principle concern. I take an almost Taoist approach to the balance between light and shadow, allowing the two to battle in a way that is reminiscent of a good game of Weiqi. So it should come as no surprise to find out this was only a study in lighting, specifically candlelight (which I don't utilize nearly enough for my taste)

This piece was quite satisfying, since it boasts multiple light sources from behind and in front, along with a generous amount of shadowplay. The rich buttery color of the candlelight introduces a sardonic sense of warmth to what is an otherwise cold scene. How many miles to Babylon? That all depends on the speed of your processor, my lad...
