Study for Marian

Here is a notion was conceived at the intersection of HPL's Shadow over Innsmouth and Marian by the Sisters of Mercy. They both have this fatalistic feeling of inevitable doom and resignation, but underneath that is a seductive pull awards your fate, becoming less unbearable as you embrace the idea until it actually becomes desirable... though I doubt this makes any sense to you unless you've ever experienced drowning. Never mind

Probably influenced by the brides of Abaia from Wolfe's New Sun as well. This one has been haunting me for some time, so I know it will never let me rest until I have a final version. Perhaps not even then. Can you hear me calling you to save me from the deep?

Like the title suggests, this is just a study- but I will see this one through to the end. Right now I am just treading water, so to speak, waiting for the right model. But all the elements are in place; I have the inspiration, I just need to commit to an actual pose. Are her hands folded over the shoulders or splayed open? Either way, I can indicate the webbing. I want to have more of an arched back, since I adore arched backs. At least I have the shading just about right. The finished piece will have excellent highlights from the waves curving over the anatomy in all the right ways. I've already solved for the background, so I just have to do the final lineart and color. Then I can rest beneath the waves
